Lighting the Path to Brighter Futures: The Dr. Ibrahim Idrisu Foundation Empowers Students in Agbede with Solar Lamps and Scholarships

On December 5, 2025, the Dr. Ibrahim Idrisu Foundation celebrated another milestone in its commitment to transforming lives and fostering sustainable development. In a heartwarming ceremony at the Momodu College Hall in Agbede, Edo State, twelve exceptional students from six schools in the Etsako West Local Government Area were awarded solar lamps and scholarships. This initiative reflects the Foundation’s mission to empower underserved communities through education and sustainable energy solutions.

Empowering Education Through Solar Lighting

For many rural students in Nigeria, studying after sunset poses a significant challenge due to unreliable electricity. With solar lamps, this barrier is being dismantled. These innovative, eco-friendly lamps provide a clean and dependable source of light, allowing students to dedicate more time to their studies, improve academic performance, and nurture their aspirations. “I like to read at home but there is no light to read” shared Inyang Esther of Momodu College. “ I am very happy to receive this solar lamp because it will help me in my education.” The impact of solar lighting on education cannot be overstated. It enhances learning opportunities and reduces health risks associated with kerosene lamps and candles, such as respiratory issues and fire accidents.

Easing Financial Burdens Amid Economic Challenges

The scholarships provided by the Foundation are equally impactful. Covering school fees, books, and other school supplies, these scholarships ease the financial strain on families, enabling parents to prioritize their limited resources on other pressing needs. In the face of rising costs of basic necessities in Nigeria, families face increasing financial pressure. By providing solar lamps, the Foundation eliminates the recurring expenses of kerosene, candles, or battery-powered lights. The combination of savings from these expenses with the scholarships creates a wave of economic relief. “It is going to help me and my parents because we don’t have pay school fees again,” said Precious Jacob of Atebheda Primary School. “There is no light in Agbede. This solar lamp is going to help me for a long time, even in secondary school.”
